Jayce’s locs are getting long and Boogey’s curls are effortless. With everyone loving their God-given crowns, there’s a lot of maintenance that comes with it. and of course, I am in charge of it all!

Whether you’re looking for products for your own curls, locs, or waves I have several products below that can help meet your natural hair needs!

Journey with the long hair don’t care!

Journey has low porosity hair. I have to be intentional with how I moisturize her hair and it tangles easily. Every product listed below helps detangle, lock in moisture, and provides a little hold for styling!

·      Curls Blueberry Bliss Reparative Hair Wash

I use this same shampoo on my hair. It is great for a gentle yet efficiant cleanse and helps with detangling. At first, I was a little confused with the directions. You wash cleanse your scalp, then re lather focusing on the shaft of the hair. You detangle with a wide tooth comb and let it sit for 10 minutes. I thought it was odd to leave a shampoo on your hair out of fear of drying it out. BUT it worked! No dryness at all

·      Curls Blueberry Bliss Reparative Leave In Conditioner

This works well for journey. I don’t always follow her wash with a conditioner. A good leave in works just as good.

·      Palmer's Olive Oil Formula Deep Conditioner Packet

When it’s time to do a good deep conditioner, I use the palmer’s deep conditioner packet. It works very well. I used it for years on my own hair (still do from time to time)

·      Almond & Jojoba Oil mix

This is the same oil mix I use for my scalp and hair. I use an apllication bottle fill it with almond oil and add a tablespoon of Jojoba oil (Since jojoba oil is a heavy oil i only use a small amount). I ALWAYS use this brand. I’ve tried others but I just prefer these 2 brands over most. I find them at the health food store. If you’re in Dallas you can get them at Ann’s Health Food. If not, you can order it by clicking here

·      THE MANE CHOICE KIDS Leave-In Conditioner

I love love love this stuff. It leaves Journ’s hair so soft and smells great. I use this when styling Journ’s hair and need to be detangled or if she’s wearing it loose and needs a boost of moisture.

·      SheaMoisture Smoothie Curl Enhancing Cream

This stuff is Gold in a bottle! Any style I do use a little of this. Especially if I am doing a loose style. It smells great and conditions her curls

·      Eco Style Gel - Olive Oil

When braiding her hair I mix a little of this with the Shea Moisture curl cream. works as a styling product while locking in moisture.

Jayce with the crown of locs!

I locked Jayce’s hair two years ago. Maintaining his locs has definitely been a learning experience. In no way have I mastered it! I am constantly trying new products. He’s all boy, so it’s all kind of fuzzies lost in his hair as a result of constantly rolling around on the ground! When trying new products, I look for products that will clean his locs without causing dryness and twisting products that don’t leave a residue or feels tacky once used on the locs.

Here are some new products I recently started using…so far, they’ve worked pretty well.

I love this shampoo. I’ve had a hard time finding a shampoo that will cleanse his hair without drying it out. This shampoo does a great job cleansing his hair will providing moisture at the same time.

It’s done it so well I don’t follow it with a conditioner.

So I am new to using this hook. I tried it for the 1st time a few weeks ago. After a lot of youtube tutorials, I was able to successfully figure it out and it made a world of difference. I like for his locks to look neat, especially at the roots but I was having a hard time keeping them tight at the root. The hook helped tighten his locks without putting too much tension on the roots. Making his retwists look neat and last a little longer.

  • Oil mix

I use the same oil mix that I use on my hair and Journ’s hair. However, I only use the oil when it’s closer to getting his hair washed and he needs a little moisture.

I have tried SO MANY gels and I always come back to this one!

-Doesn’t leave a residue

-Has great hold

-All natural ingredients

-smells great

Boogey got curls for the girls & waves for days!

Like most teens, Boogey switches his hair like he changes socks lol. One day he wants long hair, the next minute he wants curls, then he comes home with a fade. In order to meet his ever changing hair needs, I keep some universal products on hand that can assist with any style he chooses.  Regardless of how he wears his hair, out of all of us, his hair is the easiest to maintain.

·      Creme of Nature Mango & Shea Butter Ultra Moisturizing Shampoo

I really do love this shampoo. I used it for years and still use it from time to time. Like any boy, Boogey doesnt want to spend much time washing his hair. This shampoo is simple, smells great and gets straight to the point.

·      WaveBuilder Deep Wave Forming Pomade

I don’t know much about ‘building waves’ but according Papa, that’s what you have to do and you start with this stuff! whatever the case, after a few nights of applying this with a wave cap I can definitely see the difference!

·      SheaMoisture Smoothie Curl Enhancing Cream

I’ll say it again…This stuff is Gold in a bottle! Anytime Boogey’s ready to rock his curls, I can find him digging around in my bathrrom looking for this!

Mookie, your favorite curl-friend!

I started my hair journey over 10 years ago. Like most naturals, I have tried TONS of products. For those that didn’t work, I tossed them aside and moved on. For the products that did work, I’ve held on to them as if life depended on it!!!

Below are my favorite products for both styling and everyday maintenance.

·      Curls Blueberry Bliss Reparative Hair Wash

I can’t tell you enough how much I love this shampoo. Again, same shampoo I use on Journ. Smells great and gives my hair a good gently cleanse.

·      Creme of Nature Detangling & Conditioning Shampoo

If I’ve worn braids for a period of time my hair can be extremely tangled once I take them down. When its time to take down the braids and wash I always use this detangling shampoo. It does a great job with cleaning my hair. However, it’s main job is to detangle and it always gets the job done!

·      Miss Jessie's Creme de la Creme

Ok, I have been using this conditioner for YEARS!! I absolutely love it! it smells great, detangles like none other and doesn’t over moisturize my hair (too much moisture is a NO NO)

·      OGX Thick & Full + Biotin & Collagen Conditioner

I use this conditioner any time I plan to straighten my hair at home. This conditioner gives my hair the boost is needs when I wear it straight. Giving it a little extra body and fullness.

·      Design Essentials Natural Agave & Lavender Thermal Protectant Serum

Every natural needs a good heat protectant. This is my go to every time I blow dry or press my hair at home.

·      CHI Rocket Hair Dryer

I’ve searched high and low for a good blow dryer. One that won’t torch my hair or snag it with the attachments. This Chi dryer is everything. The only downside, the comb doesn’t stay on tight. Aside from that it’s a great dryer.

·      Denman brush

Ok so I was late finding this brush. Before, I was just using a wide tooth comb to detangle my hair. The denman brush is way better! I did modify my brush by removing every other row of brissles. Doing so, helps me comb through my curls without any pulling or tension.

·      Favorite head wrap

My go to head wrap is from trendy Turban. It’s satin lined and very easy to wrap in many different ways. Anytime you see me with this wrap just know I have some twists or braids drying underneath lol

·      SheaMoisture Smoothie Curl Enhancing Cream

Again, Gold in a bottle! No matter how I style my curls, I use this product.

·      Eco Style Gel - Olive Oil

A good gel is a must! I’ve been using this gel for years. It doesn’t flake and distributes well throughout my curls. It gives me a good hold when using as a styling agent. I always mix it with the shea moisture curl as a one step tool for moisture and hold.

·      Edge Booster

I can’t lie, I hated edge control. It never seemed to work for me. I bought this on a whim and was immediately hooked. It does a great job with laying down my edges and holding down them baby hairs!!
