Summer Time Fun: Places to go & things to do in Dallas during the summer!

SUMMER, SUMMER, SUMMER TIME!

Time to sit back and unwind!

School gets out this month and I am sooooo excited! It’s almost time to disconnect, pull out the water toys and pack on the sunscreen! I’m always looking for cool things to do with the kids during the summer. Something to keep them entertained and burn all of that extra energy! As a work-from-home mom, finding fun activities for them to do with me and with each other will be key to keeping me sane this summer!

My kids love to be outside but we also live in Texas. The summer heat can get brutal. Anything that involves water will always be a win for us! Luckily, I was able to find some pretty awesome outdoor toys, games, and water activities. Along with some of last summer’s favorites, this summer will be filled with lots of smiles, laughter, and even more memories!

Check out some of my favorite finds for the summer.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES

No matter how many ‘at-home’ activities I find, nothing beats getting everyone out of the house for a fun filled day. However, a day trip for a family of 5 can get expensive. I’m always looking something fun AND budget friendly. So here are a few of my favorite affordable summer activities the entire family will enjoy.

Due to COVID-19, many locations have implemented new policies, operating hours and have limited entry availability. Please check each location for their specific COVID-19 policies and procedures prior to arrival.

Dallas Arboretum

The Dallas Arboretum is a 66 acre urban oasis. With its children's area, the Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden, makes this oasis the perfect place for exploration. Kids can walk under waterfalls, enjoy great views on the Texas Skywalk, and track animal prints in First Adventure, an area geared toward toddlers and preschoolers. The Arboretum offers plenty of events and activities throughout the summer months. Check out their calendar to see what’s going on for summer 2021.

Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge

Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge is a stunning bridge with a 400 foot center arch that connects Woodall Rodgers Freeway to Singleton Boulevard in West Dallas. It’s walkways and grassy areas are perfect for a bike ride or an afternoon walk. You’re sure to enjoy the beautiful views it provides. Once you’re done, you can grab a bite to eat at Trinity Groves.  A popular spot for food, music and community-style outdoor patios

Dallas Farmers Market

As a Dallas native, the farmers market has always been one of my favorite places to go. From childhood field trips to watching it’s beautiful expansion, it will forever hold a special place in my heart. The Dallas Farmers Market is a public market located with in the Farmers Market District of downtown Dallas, Texas. Shop for fresh fruits and vegetables at ‘the shed’, purchase fresh flowers for your garden or shop and dine inside the 26,000 square foot food hall and artisanal vendor market. inside you’ll find four anchor restaurants, a mixture of local specialty foods, and artisanal food vendors. Whatever you choose, you’re sure to be in for a treat!

Klyde Warren Park

Up the street from the Perot Museum is Klyde Warren Park. Opening in 2012, this park has become one of the Dallas’ most enjoyable outdoor locations.
